Loris, South Carolina, is a quiet agricultural and historic railroad town in northern Horry County, about 30 miles inland from Myrtle Beach. Home to roughly 3,000 residents, it spans 3.1 square miles and is famous for its Southern charm and annual chicken bog celebration. 


History & Growth

  • Founded on December 7, 1887, as a railroad stop for the Wilmington, Chadbourn, and Conway Railroad.

  • Incorporated on July 26, 1902, transitioning from timber and turpentine to a thriving tobacco market.

  • Loris Bog-Off Festival: Held every third Saturday in October, drawing thousands to celebrate chicken bog (a local dish of chicken, rice, sausage, and spices) with cooking contests, live music, and an antique car show.
